First time ever back to back.

It’s been so much fun.

Or a FB terrorist. Depending on your point of view, lol.

Cig made a bunch of college coaches a ton of money.

Since the Cig effect likely caused both additional firings, and also salaries to rise as everybody rushed to lock up their guys. Including us.

As much bad luck as we have lived through in both football and basketball, how lucky are we to have basically had two coaching geniuses? One in basketball and now one in football.

In addition, Counsilman was the best in swimming and Jerry Yeagley in soccer.  Not bad.

We are so awesome at hiring, see basketball. /sarc (I believe DeVries will be solid though.)

But it is cool having some of the biggest names ever in those college sports.

I knew nothing about swimming, but as a kid I'd tout the Hoosiers to all my friends as kicking butt in it. Same with soccer.

I never understood why we seemed weak in track and baseball.

Now I know from the state of basketball... It was luck. We had high powered individual coaches, who made those sports. Had nothing to do with a well run department.

Cig made a bunch of college coaches a ton of money.

Including himself! Am I remembering correctly that his contract requires him to be one of the 3 highest paid coaches anytime he makes the CFP? With Kiffin moving and all the other high profile hires, including now UM, I'm guessing he's getting another raise this year still! Not to mention any other bonuses. Pretty amazing. What was he making @ JMU: $650K? And now he's at 13-14 million?

I thought it was 'average' of the three highest paid coaches. Which would be higher than just top three. Also, staff salary pool to meet top five. Not sure if that was average or just top five.

And I heard that was a yearly review with arbitration available if disputed. I never heard it had anything to do with making the CFP. That is news to me.

WOW!  Incredible spending. And yeah, it matters to the department, they aren't that flush. But when you consider 4-6 million more a year may keep coach and staff, versus not doing it. Seems worth it.

Pretty sure it was tied to making the CFP, which would make sense.

Yeah, you are likely correct. I went off some probably wrong articles that said a yearly review, and 'top three average'. Well saw the clause posted now and it says review to make sure his comp as at least top three of CFP eligible programs. And that site said that clause invokes if we make the quarterfinals of the CFP ourselves. I had heard the review to stay top three was yearly. But depends on performance it seems. So, if some of the very highest paid miss the CFP, it could be less than top three of all coaches. And if we miss, the clause doesn't apply that year. But every year we do, he'll probably be getting nice raise!

Do not forget about the General. He's been surpassed but he was the all time wins leader
