@thehoosierhuddle I forget who it was I heard talking about how influential they (and Cig?) felt his time at IUP was, because he was rationing scholarships and having to determine who would get schollies, and how much, and having to navigate keeping everyone happy. They were saying that seemed to really prepare him for the portal/NIL stage, where again he was having to navigate divying up who gets what piece of the pie. Guys who've come up exclusively at P4 programs don't have that background. Interesting perspective to me. All I know is something prepared CC for excelling at analyzing talent and figuring out who he wants on his team and that was as good an explanation as any!
@kkott I actually had that conversation with Andy Graham on the phone a couple weeks ago, it makes total sense. That's the part of the story that gets undersold

I take it you fellas aren’t aware that we already have a commitment from one of the finest QB’s in the 2028 class.
Great quarterbacks don’t duck competition and don’t lack confidence.
He has some strong verbals from QBs but doesn't mean we know how he is getting those verbals. I think it would be more difficult than usual given his desire for production at the positions (transfers have an advantage)

Cig is on tape somewhere saying something to the effect that he’d prefer to have an in house QB and when he feels he does he’ll go with him/them…
When you look at the circumstances of his QB needs (both here and at JMU) since 2020 he’s gone after transfers and its worked out well for both parties.
Here at INDIANA it’s been a no-brainer when you compare the guys he’s brought in versus who was on hand pure talent wise… When that talent gap (who’s on hand vs who’s in Portal) evens out I’d personally expect Cig to look from within the program first… Time will tell.
Who knows, perhaps in a parallel universe that gap closes sooner than later, or has already.

Just want Cherry to get a shot before all these 5 stars flood the roster. 
Definitely has had no trouble recruiting QBs. Bell, others already in the fold. Cherry was a Cig recruit although originally a Tom Allen prospect, since Cig had to flip him from Duke.
I think keeping a high end backup is going to be the toughest thing. Like Alberto, they are going to move around to find more PT and more pay. So that's more the question, how much PT should they get.
From what I think I’ve seen out there this staff appears to try to ultimately find a way to reward hard work and perseverance…
It looks to me like that when a guy proves he can be trusted out there they find ways to utilize him.
If Cherry continues to stick it out and is as good as we all think he is I think he’ll end up getting his shot at eventually starting.
I’m rooting for him too…
In my way of thinking the trick won’t be getting them here; the trick will be keeping them here while they wait their turn behind someone of equal talent but with more experience in the system that the staff already trusts…
