CFP Quarterfinal Question

The team and coaches have to focus on Wisconsin and then Purdue. We are fans though and what we focus on makes no difference whatsoever! With that written, IU is very likely to earn a bye to the quarterfinal of the CFP. Assuming that is the case, who is the one potential opponent that you DO NOT want IU to end up squaring off with? Why is that your choice?

I think this could be an interesting thought exercise and good discussion.

TBH, I don't want to run it back with Oregon.  Not that I don't think we would still be favored because I like our chances on a neutral field, but beating any team twice is always tough.

With that being said, I DO want to play any SEC team.  I don't even care which one.  I truly believe they are all highly overrated.  This season we have a loaded team and its our best chance to quiet them down.

I'm leaning toward any of the potential  SEC teams as well.  Would prefer the Rose Bowl so it's not a pseudo home game at one of the other sites.

Having a revenge game against ND on a neutral would be awfully sweet.

The quarter finals really need to be home games for the teams earning the bye.

I agree with you about the home game. Remember that all four bye teams lost last year in the quarter finals. Had to be something with the extra week off and being rusty.

I haven't actually seen them play, but frankly, I'm not sure I want Texas Tech.  Their defense sounds salty. And Iowa and PSU both have salty defenses that we struggled against.

Let's stick a pin in that until after a couple years of the expanded playoffs.  Remember that last year the byes had to go to conference champs.  So two of those teams that lost (Arizona St. & Boise St.) were two of the lowest ranked teams in the CFP (12 & 9 respectively).  The other two that lost (Oregon & UGA) lost to Ohio State & Notre Dame (6 & 5 respectively).

I'm going to guess that we're going to see fewer upsets going forward with the straight seeding they're using now.

I'd love to play ND again and slaughter them.  TBH

but any SEC team will do as well.
Would rather not play Oregon either.

My ideal. OSU in Indy. ND in Rose Bowl (quarterfinals). A&M in semis. Bama in championship. Beat the 2 that beat us last year. Beat the top 2, as of now, SEC schools. I'd also take beating Ole Miss or Tenn to make up for our last 2 bowl losses.

Oregon doesn’t scare me. We controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. That won’t change.
