Wifi still sucks at Memorial Stadium. And what happened to scores? I didn’t see them give other scores once the entire first half.

Dont remind fans that there are many real football games going on already by week two.

Actually, I would love a game like this if we could fit it in around game 8-9 for rest and recovery, the way the SEC always used to do.

I’d like for one of our three preconference game to be decent.

@zeke4ahs

Yeah…

If only we could be smart like Wisconsin and  schedule big names early… (DWS)

🙄

6 “good games” since 2021, 6 extra losses, one coach fired and one soon to be…

Great scheduling strategy…

I feel your pain, Zeke, but I'm not sure how you define "decent." If decent = P4, I've got to disagree. I think the soft OOC schedule makes the most sense in today's CFB environment and given the current structure of the CFP.

Marquee games in September are exciting for fans (and I was initially disappointed by Cig's decision to cancel the ND series) but I hope we continue to avoid power opponents in the OOC schedule. Of course, my opinion doesn't amount to a hill of beans, but I believe that's Cig's mindset. He has commented that the B1G schedule is tough enough.  In Cig we trust.

I read recently that Sark said their early season loss last year to OSU in the "shoe was the reason they didn't make the CFP.  Another win over a soft(er) opponent, instead of the loss to the Buckeyes, would have landed Texas in the CFP at 10-2.  Instead, they were on the outside looking in.

Teams with three losses are probably not going to make the cut.  I know there have been some exceptions, and Alabama is one.  They got in last year (and their selection was controversial) with three Ls.  But one of those was in the SEC championship game.  That game was played shortly after one of the CFP selection committee members had publicly stated something along the lines of teams shouldn't be penalized for playing in a conference championship game, regardless of the outcome.

If a power team goes 3-0 in non-conference play, and then 7-2 in the conference, they're close to a lock for the CFP.  2-1 OOC and 7-2 conference, though, will generally not be good enough, regardless of who they lost to in the OOC.  I see little upside and much downside to scheduling OOC games against P4 schools.  I hope IU continues as is.

They still do play those late season FBS games.

Yeah, I guess so. I thought they went away, with 9 SEC conference games this year instead of only 8. But most I looked at now are only playing two games before their conference schedule, leaving an FBS game for a couple weeks before the end of the season.

Which I think makes more sense than our schedule. A way to build in a bye week. But I'm not Cig, Dolson, or the Big Ten deciders.

I think I would like to have the off week later in the year the way the B1G does it. No reason just seems the kids can use the rest at that time of year.

You still get a bye week too. You get two of them. Yes they need it by then.

@big-ryan Yeah I know it makes sense. But I was thinking of skipping the game yesterday, and I never do. Just thought oh it’s a hassle to drive and it may rain and it’s going to be a blowout. And gotta admit, it’s a bit of a letdown when my last game was the title game to drive to see Howard. I think I’m just getting spoiled after only two years.

I actually like a good beatdown, depending... I don't like seeing a plucky, totally outmanned team get humiliated, like ISU last year. But I love what we did to Illinois and Alabama. In the last two years Cig has tended to leave the starters in longer than necessary and running up the score when it doesn't matter. At least this past weekend he seems to have mellowed on that a bit.

the one thing I like about the schedule is no one has any real game film on us.  OSU, UT and the rest who have a tough first games have to show most of the playbook.

and those games take a toll that builds the throughout the e rest of the year.

Yes, after games like Oregon and Miami and all the excitement around the stadiums it is a little hard to go see them play Howard and UNT. But being at the games brought back a lot of the feelings from those playoff games so that was nice. On the other hand being a ticket holder for over 20 years now, I will NEVER get tired of seeing a win. Against anyone.
