Great overview of what we've got coming this fall. I think we've got a legitimate chance to be even better than last year. Insane thought, but I believe it. Only correction in the article is it reads as if TCU won the natty. They played in it, but got crushed. Otherwise, excellent article.

The one thing you can’t measure is the intangible of how tight this team was. Think that came with the JMU transfers coming over and getting everyone to buy in to coachs way. Understand we have players coming back but don’t know if they are same kind of leaders like last yr, now that the JMU players are now gone. I think talent wise we have a definite chance of being better, just that intangible of togetherness will be hard to match, IMHO

We did have some very hard to replace guys go pro or run out of eligibility.

But JMU players are really just Cig players. The same staff that identified and developed those guys at JMU is doing the same thing here.  Only now they’re just called IU players.  There is a decent chance new names emerge this season and become the next generation of program leadership.

Yet even Cig seemed a bit surprised with how tight this team was. Praised that aspect more than he did the previous year team, which at the time he did say had come together well and was tight.

That to me is indicative of the type of kid he recruits. Beyond performance, they have to fit the mold. We saw very few displays of "Look At Me" stuff and (from what I can gather) very few concerns about playing time or money by those Cig pursued. Our evaluations just seem to be off the charts great for finding the kind of players who are both good-to-great performers and who will be food fits.

Those JMU players were recruited to JMU by coach because they had those characteristics for buying in.  That's the type of player coach seems to recruit.  We are going to be in year 3 now where the foundation and expectations are clearly established at IU.  For all intents and purposes, we no longer have just 13 JMU guys, we have a team full of them.....but this newer version has natural talent. It's only the transfers and recruits that coach and the team need to get into the fold.

Mendoza made them tight.  He brought everyone together including the JMU guys.  That was the difference in my opinion.  He was unreal as a leader and lead by example.  Powerful.  Just my take.  Go Hoosiers!

Everyone wants to dismiss IU as a one-hit wonder which means they will have to contend for or win another national title under Cignetti. That’s the reality. Hopefully he and the team use that as motivation this season.

That’s not the reality.  16-0 natty stands on its own regardless.
