Tino is out at UCLA. Should be him back in an analyst role.
It goes to show that taking a promotion at another school isn't always the right move.
Probably would have thought foster would have lasted more than 1.5 years but need to be careful what head coach you follow because they can turn into an anchor quickly
Seems like a good dude. Hopefully he latches on with someone next year.
That ended up being a bad situation.
I’m sure he’ll land on his feet. Probably sooner than later.

Pretty interesting. UCLA looked to be improving last year, and OC at a B1G school is a big promotion. From a distance it made sense to me.
But, he got a lot closer look at UCLA than any of us could and I guess there were more issues there. Getting involved in the whole Nico thing probably wasn’t smart.
Anyways, I’m sure he’ll be fine and find a decent to good job somewhere.
@tammany yes, you have to wonder how much of that Nico thing was his doing, and how much it spoiled the culture with the other players. Did Foster force it on him? Aguilar seems to be doing quite well with Tenn.
Is there evidence suggesting the Nico move was prompted by Tino getting involved?
I have no idea if Tino prompted the Nico move — I would guess no with respect to him leaving UT. Nico seemed to have his bluff called by UT and he didn’t have a backup plan.
My thought is it probably wasn’t a good idea to take him once he became available after leaving Tennessee. My only logic is his behavior at Tennessee is probably not what you want and he wasn’t really an upgrade. Also don’t know if Tino and/or Foster decided to pursue him.
Who knows, maybe Nico hasn’t been a problem at all.
@cg-paul Yeah, but I would think he should have known it was a bad situation he was stepping in to. I think anyone with a pulse knew Foster was on thin ice.
I don't know, last season Foster started 1-5, but that included loses to IU, at LSU, Oregon, and at Penn St. That's a really tough stretch of games.
After that UCLA seemed to improve, they finished 4-2 including wins at Rutgers, at Nebraska (pretty good), and Iowa at home.
Their 2025 recruiting/portal was ranked midpack in the conference.
Some people were high on them going into this year -- as in they could make a bowl.
Ultimately, Tino gets to look under the hood much more than fans do and he has to figure out if it's a good job to take. But from a distance, UCLA looked decent going into this season.
Wrong place, wrong time.
Tino hurt himself with their woeful offensive performance out of the gate this year. Who's going to be thinking 'grab this guy for our OC' now? May have to be a position coach. You'd think his rep as a QB whisperer will get him a gig though. May have to be at a mid school though for awhile.
I wonder if our offense still doing well might detract from the perception of how important he was to us? Cig praised him, but praises the new guy. And memories are short.
@tammany yeah, when they announced Nico was interested in UCLA I thought then that they should leave him alone. They would have been much better off staying put. Hard to figure why the offense was so bad so far this year. I haven’t watched them play much but it is not a good look for Tino.
I agree.Wrong place, wrong time.
Hopefully he continues getting paid and can take some time finding the right fit.
With the long relationship they have had, CCC will have his back and help him as needed.
