Anyone have experience with Bloomington tailgating? Have a friend with a choice spot and we’re talking about doing the satellite thing to watch games down there OSU week.
Options on dishes? Have another friend who has Starlink at his house so we could use that account if we got a portable connection, or I see lots of used DishTV tailgating dishes online. Anyone familiar with the best/most reliable set up here?
While we’re at it, do people cook while there or cook before and keep warm for the day in warmers?
Any other discussion of prime tailgating set ups?
I'm not the best to answer since we don't have a group. I guess to start, do you or your friend already have parking secured? The lots around the stadium are all parking pass for the most part. There are some new day of game parking options that then use a shuttle and there is the church across the bypass that does day of game parking.
As for set ups, you will see a mix of set ups just like any other college gameday tailgate. We typically have a 8x8 Canopy, and then food wise because its just us we pre-make our food. There are plenty of people with larger groups and bigger spreads that will have grills going, crockpots, etc. I've seen people with TV's and dishes, can't say I've seen a Starlink but don't know why it wouldn't work.
I'm in a new lot this year so we are not 100% sure what to expect because we are in a smaller grass lot this year versus Lot 12 where we have been the past two years. Our first year we were in the Larger Grass Tailgating lots and that was the first year I think they did Zipper parking in those lots.
The only thing I know for this year is we do plan to go down earlier this year because the crowds will be larger for all the games and with the new lots and larger crowds we are anticipating traffic may be a bit of a mess the first few games.
I use Starlink to stream. Works really well and I appreciate that I can make the subscription go idle during the offseason when I'm not using it vs. a year long contract with a DishTV. Downside is that you've got to have the right streaming services to hook up to your TV. For example, Hulu w/ live TV doesn't work outside of your home area. Although ESPN, Peacock, & bootleg streams on YouTube work fine. Also, be aware of where you're setup, it doesn't do well with tree canopy cover.
We cook fresh in the RV lot for the most part and we did the same when we were in the grass lots when we just drove down. Lots of people use warmers too, whether chafing dishes or crock pots (if you've got a power bank/generator). but always something nice about firing up the grill.
In the past, I have used a solar generator for a small TV and a crockpot. I usually use my phone as a hotspot, but would love Starlink to stream. I tried the dish stuff way back when, but was a pain to haul and set up.
We usually grill out too.
I am doing the RV thing for homecoming so we'll have it decorated for Halloween. Stop by

#19 semi clear drawer sets were a game changer for us. The mini wine bottle in red an white...not great wine but opening bottles for one or two glasses sucks

@bradstevens This has some really good tips. The six-pack holder as a condiment, utensil and napkin holder is a game changer

For those that haven't seen it, @IUHoosiers twitter just posted tailgate policies video with Hoosier the Bison. Basically the do's and don'ts so not sure if they will be cracking down on things that I know people have done in the past. Don't think I've ever seen them do this before but with the larger crowds and demand for parking I can see were they may be enforcing some of the rules a bit more.
Basically, no tents larger than 10x10, tents have to be set up in front of or behind your vehicle, not taking up a parking spot, etc. Several things they show as don't do I know are pretty common last year so just something to be aware of for Saturday.
Yes, it always amazed me last year with all the sell outs that people were taking up additional parking spaces in the lots with their tailgate tents. And it was a LOT of people taking up a LOT of spots. Gonna take some doing to break those habits. For those that haven't seen it, @IUHoosiers twitter just posted tailgate policies video with Hoosier the Bison. I just got an e-mail specifically about parking and the lots. Between the Twitter posting, the e-mail and other parking changes I'm starting to rethink what time I may head down on Saturday. We aren't ones to be in line for the lots to open but we also don't try to get there just before kickoff. Normally we get there about 3 hours before kickoff but starting to wonder if we should go a bit sooner.
@bbh42 I am leaving Indy at 8am with the hopes of getting in my spot by 10am. With regular traffic it takes me an hour 10 minutes door to door. We aren't tailgating long due to the heat and noon kick and that we will have 3 kiddos 5 and under

I hope Ms. Jacobs has some help.
What would Don say if you brought them upstairs with you?
