Coach Cignetti delivered positive news regarding OL Drew Evans & CB Amariyun Kighten being back from injuries & cleared for fall practice. Coach said that the OL play must improve in 2025 & Drew Evans will be a large part towards that goal. Remember Evans missed INDIANA's games against Michigan, Ohio St. & ND, so having him back & healthy is key. Kighten will provide stiff competition for starting CB for this year's defensive backfield. Having both back improves INDIANA's outlook.
didn't see this thread when updating the "sticky" roster/depth chart thread...i really want to see reports on evans since it's between 9-10 months since his achilles surgery but very good news that he's back.
i know the competition ramped up but when he left, the OL simply wasn't the same last year.
if he's healthy that means they have him, benson, carter smith, coogan, zen and lynch all with pretty extensive experience/playing time and guys like liebfried, ajani and evan lawrence waiting in the wings.
Competition makes the players better, period. Let's hope the line is injury-free throughout the year. That is key.

To be honest, that is all but guaranteed not to happen. Usually its not season ending like we had but we now have the depth to overcome an injury or two. That was never the case in the past and why it feels like IU has a solid foundation.

How great is this. They go 11-1 in the BIG last season and make the CFP. Score 40+ points in 8 games and CCC says " the OL must improve". Wow, good times will be coming to brown again this year. GoHoosiers

He got hurt last November, so it's been 8 months since his injury. Like you, I'm skeptical on his return so quickly.
We definitely missed him when he went down. No one really talks about it, but our offense wasn't the same without him on the o line last year. I honestly thought he was out second best lineman last year up until his injury.
If he's healthy, I have him penciled in at left guard.
CCC said they would monitor Evans closely, but he's been cleared to full go.

BEAT PURDUE
Surprised by the Evans news for sure as it's big to have another guy that's played snaps up there. The two-deep has tons of younger guys, so the older the better
@qparker I believe Evans PFF was highest for the OL for pass protection last year.
@boogie I ruptured my achilles in July of 2021...by end of September I was out of cast and walking boot, walking normally. I've personally chosen not to play ball or anything any more, but I believe I could have easily done that within the 8 month mark, if I had wanted to. And I was a mid 40s, out of shape, non D1 level athlete. So it doesn't surprise me that Drew has been cleared. If he's already a beast like he was pre injury, that would surprise me. So I do hope they bring him a long slowly. We need him weak 4 and beyond.
@iunorth yeah, but he's a 300 lb + plus lineman that will be lined up across from other 300 lb + humans trying to shove him backwards where you have to have a solid base or he's gonna seriously hurt himself again.
Walling, sure. Playing high level d1 football, like you, hope they don't rush him back before he's ready.
@qparker he very well could have. I just thought from the eye test, he was behind Carter in terms of our lineman last year and didn't think it was a coincidence that our offense wasn't as potent when we played solid teams as it had been when he was healthy.
