Just read an article that says Florida should go after Cig.  It is starting early this year because everybody watched us put on a clinic against Brett (who most respect) Saturday night.  Cig is in everyone's head.  Go Hoosiers!

I remember when I wanted Florida State to poach Tom Allen...

This time, let's be sure to keep our guy.

It is humorous so many schools think they're the shit, and all the big names want to be there.

Indiana is the shit, and Coach wants to be here.

Ha, not worried about Florida.  Fit doesn't seem right and that job has some pretty big downsides (hard to rebuild, things are political with the admin/donors).

The only one that really worries me is if James Franklin craps the bed this year (which he can do) causing PSU to give up on him, AND, Cig has another big year.

Maybe I'm wrong, I can only guess.

I'll worry about this once the regular season is over.  Cig has a pretty good gig here with a very supportive AD/President and it sounds like his wife likes Bloomington.  He's a great coach, but not necessarily a great fit for a lot of big programs.

I have said it a bunch, I just am not worried about Cig leaving IU.

He's not exactly a young guy. He can finish his career here as a legend, or go somewhere else and just be another good coach at a historically good program. I don't think it will come down to money, but what he wants his legacy to be.

If he gets into the playoff again, they'll have to bump him up to $9M/yr.  The top coaches are all getting over $10M.  The challenging part will be balancing the NIL funds.

I thought he was at 8 yr, $64M contract but I see there was retention bonus in there.  Anyways, they'll have to keep going up every year for a little while if this continues.

Yea, adding in the annual retention bonus to get to $9M.  I think NIL is the thing that has to keep ticking up so the ceiling keeps going up.

It’s hilarious how SEC and ACC fans think that Indiana doesn’t have the money to keep him.

There's even some strong grumbling getting louder about Dabo at Clemson, and particularly his reluctance to dive into NIL revenue enhancement and the portal as much as seems to be needed.

But I don't see Cig being antsy to move to UF, Clemson, or other such locations that would pay a bit more, probably, but not apples vs. oranges more.

One other thing in our favor is that the football blue bloods also lean toward a younger coach with a direct connection to their program and to their recruiting base.

@tammany 2/3 Colts owners are IU grads, and one of them was tweeting about the Illinois beatdown. Cuban is also tweeting about our Ws, which he didnt do much of last year. If this season continues the way it should, IU's NIL war chest should be in a pretty good state.

There is really no need to worry. Clemson cannot afford to get rid of Dabo, and Dabo isnt leaving. Florida is an administrative mess, and their schedule is not conducive to a quick turnaround with the SEC going to 9 conference games and having FSU as an OOC rivalry game. Say Notre Dame implodes, Cig is absolutely not a culture fit there, neither is Ohio State if Ryan Day decided to go to the NFL.

Penn St would probably be the only "danger", but Franklin is owed almost $60m in guarantees. Even if PSU sucks this year, they cannot afford to get rid of him.

@hoosierdaddy Agree NIL should keep going up.

I had not looked up Franklin's buyout.  $60M alleviates my worries!

Beyond that, past program prestige doesn't hold remotely close to the weight it used to. It comes down to current administration, NIL budget, and personal lifestyle. I don't think those other programs can do too much over what IU has done and he's going to be enshrined at IU.  I dont see him leaving, as long as everyone (admin, school, fans) values him as much as much as we do.

Penn State lost to Notre Dame on a neutral site last year, 27-24.  IU lost on the road at ND 27-17.  Franklin is considered on a hot seat. Ha. Cigs isn't leaving.

IU will need a healthy NIL budget to replace some of the production it is losing after this season.
