I googled Barry Odom. He has had 1 losing season and was .500 at Missouri and 44-33 overall.
If he is disagreeing with the coach that is 130-37, then maybe he is doing it wrong.

The interesting part about their transfers is that several of them landed at good schools. I don’t know if it is that they are over evaluated or they just threw in the towel early. Take a guy like Thieneman. He was rated very high in the transfer portal and looked awful last year. He was frequently getting blown by in open spaces, poor tackling, and looking slow. Now, maybe it was just coaching but he got a lot of praise for a lot of poor output.
some of the linemen as well received high portal ranks and they apeared to be getting pushed around like ragdolls all season.
Tell Coach Odom that the most effective way to improve our WEAK schedule is to drop PURDUE. Then Purdue could replace INDIANA with a team they could beat like Indiana State.

Am I the only fan who thinks it was a legit shot? Dumb, but legit. I thought it was a big mistake buying out of the Lville game and can't believe with Cig in charge we did that with UVA. UVA is a pretty average P5 program, and to cancel with them, I think it looks bad and opens us up to legit criticism, as we faced last year. As it was, I think we beat Lville last year and would probably beat UVA in these games. Admittedly I'm a bandwagon football fan, and am sure there's a valid reason, but I'd have rather seen us honor the games we had on the books, and Cig adjust to his scheduling strategy going forward. Didn't we talk about adding ND to our schedule? I'd like for our precon to be 1 P5 oppenent, hopefully a "name" or rival like Lville, UK or ND, 1 cupcake and another IN or team with regional interest, ie: BSU or ISU ideally, or like a Bowling Green, Kent St, etc...
I'm with you. It doesn't look good. Especially when we are still trying to garner respect. Alabama etc can do this and get away with it as they built up equity ... we have zero equity. We should have one power 5 on the preconference schedule. And the one cupcake and a regional team as you mentioned.
There's also the money factor and getting more homes games to consider.
Last year, we didn't know how good we were going to be and Louisville was also good. It would have been a big risk given that losing to UL would have removed us from the playoffs.
Would beating a UVA team this year, who had a losing record last year, really do much for our strength of schedule? Enough to counter losing the money from an extra home game?

There's no reason for Indiana to play a road game in the non-conference against a P4 opponent, especially when the SEC is only playing eight conference games.

I get the desire to play these games. I think they key is looking at the upside vs. downside.
We didn’t play Louisville and we made the playoff, so we didn't need that game to do something fairly amazing. A road game at a pretty good Louisville team early in the season with last year's portal heavy team still coming together would have been far from a sure fire win. Lose that game and our playoff spot is at risk. 10-2 Miami and BYU didn’t make it. More downside than upside.
UVA football just got a huge donor investment. That early season road game may not be easy. If we beat them, no one cares. Lose and our postseason chances are significantly diminished. Same goes if we played someone like UK.
We played a decade in the brutal Big 10 East. I’ve got no problem scheduling to maximize our postseason (bowls and playoff) chances. We play a nine game P2 schedule that’s hard enough. I do hope we keep ND, reason being a loss to them doesn’t hurt much, and the game has real upside if we win.
I get the point about being tough or whatever and playing people anywhere anytime, but I’d rather be strategic and frankly do what most other schools are doing. I'd prefer to play one decent team in the non-con, but only if CFB makes it so there isn't so much downside to do so.
