"Well, then, I guess there's only one thing left to do....Win the whole fucking thing." -Jake TaylorIn my opinion, the only reason it might matter is if we lose to OSU. If we go into that game 3, we could drop to 5-6 or whatever. If we're going in at 2, we might only drop to 4.
Might as well win 'em all then. Just to take away the stress.

If IU had dropped to #3 tonight, it would show that everything is influenced by what have you done lately. IU won by 3 on the road in a hostile environment.
Last month, Texas A&M played the last place team in the SEC, Arkansas sitting at 2-7 currently, and won by 3 and gave up 42 points in the process.
You have to look at the entire body of work. A&M beat a bad Auburn team at home by 6.They play one single team in the upper half of the conference (Texas in the final regular season). If people want to gripe about IU’s schedule, they need to see that A&M avoided Bama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Vandy,Oklahoma and Tennessee.
IU played 3 teams with a combined 20 wins (6.7 wins by opponent). A&M played 6 teams with a combined 25 wins (4.2 wins by opponent)in the Aggie’s’ defense, as it pertains to that Arkansas game, they were really never in grave danger of losing at any point, if I recall correctly. And they didn’t trail at all in the fourth quarter or maybe not even the second half.
Penn State would beat Arkansas by 2 scores.

Penn State would also kill Northwestern, especially with a healthy QB.
Oops.

just a quick question. it's unclear to me what you are driving at by comparing 3 teams indiana has played with 6 teams a&m has played. which 3 teams, and which 6 teams did you select from the schedule?
I dont think the W/L matters as much as what the numbers are saying, we dont really have any overlapping opponents to judge off of
If you line up IU's opponents next to A&M's opponents this year, there is minimal difference if you go by metrics and power ratings (i.e. KFord, SP+, FPI etc)
The difference is IU has been much more dominant. The score margin (for FBS only) and defensive efficiency of IU is just on a different level
@hoosierdaddy assuming iu and tamu win out the rest of the regular schedule, and prior to playing in any championship game, would that change your calculus at all viz a viz the rankings?
@texasrifle probably not. IU has a score margin near 2x that of A&M, and IU’s net success rate is best in football

My issue with Texas A&M is that out of the 16 SEC teams, this season they only play 1 team in the top 8 of the current SEC standings. That one team is the 5th best team, Texas.
Texas A&M plays or played #16 Arkansas, #15 SC, #14 Auburn, #13 Miss St., #11 Florida, #10 LSU, #9 Missouri.....and #5 Texas.
That is absolutely horrendous. I still question whether or not they are a top 10 team, let alone top 3. What happens if Texas A&M loses to Texas? Are we just giving them a pity invite to the playoff?
@yothn I dont think their schedule is that bad, I also do not think they are really a top 3 team - they would probably lose a rematch with Notre Dame for instance. They have yet to play a game against a team who is competent on both sides of the ball.
Their offense is fantastic, they have played some good defenses. But the defense is not championship caliber. The two teams they played with an offensive pulse (Arkansas, Notre Dame) both dropped 40+. UTSA (who is horrible on the road) dropped 24, and Utah State dropped 22. LSU scored their season high against A&M. Mizzou ran for 7.3 yards a clip.
We would be a nightmare opponent for them in the playoffs, would be another 300 rushing yards day for the boys
@yothn While I agree, they did beat ND on the road. 11-1 with a road win at ND is going to get anybody in the CFP, regardless of conference affiliation. Unless ND totally implodes, which probably ain't happening.

Right but for Alabama, the early season FSU loss means little. Yet for Texas A&M, that early season win means everything. The SEC bias makes people think their schedule isn't "bad" but it's truly atrocious. The ND game is their only competition, and we are assuming they are even valid competition. Gosh forbid Texas loses to Georgia this weekend, then Texas won't even be 5th. Is their best conference opponent of 8 games going to be 7th or 8th place team in the conference?
@hoosierdaddy - But as we were told repeatedly last year, our stats were inflated due to the competition. So why wouldn't the same be said for Texas A&M?

Because most SEC teams are overrated and with many being unjustly ranked. Everyone pretends that makes the SOS of every SEC team so difficult. Thus, teams can lose and still be seen as awesome.
@yothn Our stats are significantly better than A&M this year, Im not concerned about it. The SEC will find out on the field this post-season, as they did last year.
The SEC does get a lot of talent in recruiting, but no one talks about how poorly they develop them. You would think South Carolina would have a Joe Moore line with how they have recruited OL, or Florida would be a offensive juggernaut, instead they are bad FBS units.
