It’s pretty much a given that Fernando will be going into the draft next and you can’t blame him.

With the little bit we’ve seen of Alberto do you think Cig has confidence in him to take over the starting role next year or do you think he’ll look to the portal again?

I know it’s not a worry now, just curious what everyone thinks about Alberto,I see some of his brother in him.

I think Alberto will be QB1 next year. I’m sure we will still bring in someone through the portal.

I suspect it will depend on who is in the portal, but Alberto looks fine to me.

I suspect if Alberto isn’t QB1, he’s gone.

The Cherry kid is uber talented too.  See how he recovers.

Cherry saved a season so the good news is he'll still be a RS Freshman next season.

If Alberta is good enough -- great.

But, as we saw when we got Fernando in the portal with other big programs involved, Indiana is a pretty appealing place for QBs.  And it will be even more if Fernando gets a solid draft pick.  So, Alberta will need to be quite good to beat out the portal options...

I am by no means an expert evaluator of QBs, but from what I have seen from Alberto I think we will be fine. The only thing is we won’t have a lot of game experience which I can see that being a reason to find someone in the portal, but at some point we have to play these guys we are developing; right? Also, who with experience starting would want to come here as a backup to Alberto? Perhaps, only someone G5. It seems like someone will have to leave to pickup a new QB from the portal. We will have Alberto, Cherry, Bell, and Herrera. 4 scholarship QBs seems to be about the norm.

In limited action, Alberto has looked good to me. This was a guy Cig prioritized recruiting going back to his time at JMU, we likely bring in a vet QB in the portal (just because we will be thin at the group), but I think its going to be Alberto's show.

I think there is confidence in Alberto. He has taken quite the step forward this year. However, IU will lose Fernando to the draft and Grant Wilson to graduation. That leaves them with Tyler Cherry (if he stays and is healthy), Jacob Bell and Cash Herrera. That's not a ton of quality depth. I could see IU going to the portal for some experience there.

I agree it’s too early to concern ourselves with now.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised of he brings in a portal qb to start.

However, it’s too early to tell at this point.

I can see one more season with mini-Mendoza & Cherry (if he stays on schedule) just to find out who gets the starter role with the other moving on.

I also would expect them to bring in someone with quality starter experience at the G6/FCS/D2 level. Not to come in and be the man necessarily, but to be able to be the man if the young guys don’t pan out or if there are injuries.  Helps keep who we’ve got working hard and gives someone from a lower level an opportunity to compete and/or be an important part of the team.

I hope all of our recruits pan out in a big way.

But for moneyball reasons I really hope the QBs and lineman develop. QB the single most expensive position, and both lines because they are so important that it costs a lot to stock them.

So far so good!
