Bummer ... but understandable.
maybe he goes and gets a yr as a starter
.....and then comes back?
Probably knows that Cignetti is going to the Raiders.
I hope our QB room is developing. Maybe Cherry will be good, and is healthy? I liked Jacob Bell's highlights from high school.
Grant Wilson at least isn't chopped liver, for a backup.
Really hate to lose Alberto though. He looks like a very good player.
But you can't play everybody.
,
Is this an actual reversal of how he felt just a few days ago or was that previous report just incorrect?

I can't recall the context or who said that Alberto was coming back, but if you paid attention to Cig's comments at media day on Saturday this shouldn't surprise anyone. Cig reminded the media that Alberto himself told him when they signed Fernando that Fernando's gotta go the draft after the season, so it would be Alberto's job in 2026. Otherwise he'd portal.

This was inevitable the second Hoover was pursued and committed.
@hoosiernation1887 I had posted an article where it had mentioned he planned on competing with Hoover for the starting job. Which presumably meant being on the team lol
Bummer to lose Alberto. Hopefully he does well and transfers back in next year. Sounds like Georgia Tech is willing to let him start / solid NIL package

Georgia Tech makes perfect sense for Alberto. Very similar play style to Haynes King.
I don't think GT plays Miami in the regular season, which is too bad. Any QB named Mendoza is the boogeyman to Miami.
Fernando had a season for the ages. If Alberto stayed at IU, he'd be constantly compared to his brother. He's got to chart his own course, and I'd do the same thing.
Well this is why Cig is successful, he doesn't let emotion get in the way. Alberto may evolve into a great QB but he isn't right now and Cig can't guarantee him the role.
@big-ryan I don't fault him, but I'd think there were still strong reasons to stay... if Cignetti and the staff wanted him. It may have just been a tough conversation, but if they wanted him, I think they could have gotten him more reps and of course with an injury, he could be starting in game 1. In all honesty and I said it multiple times throughout the year, while I think he is a superior runner to Fernando, I thought his passing and decision making looked suspect in limited PT this year. If he was the future, the guy I think made sense was Colton Joseph because of what a great runner he is and then you could have consistency of offense and styles from starter to backup. I hate to see him go and the timing sucks that this has to happen not even 24 hours after we win the NC, but it could be this was a mutual thing.
I would expect Cig to grab another QB out of the portal.
