Season definitely needs to end earlier.   Hate to see conference championship game disappear now that we might be a regular participant but it was expected

@hurryinghoosiers I am fine with it. It's unnecessary when the Playoff expands. Shared titles are fine. Plus I would much rather IU host a Playoff Game then play in Indy (or wherever they move it to down the road)

The season should go to January 26(?) this year. They won't do it, but the season should be over on January 1. It's ok for the next week, but anything beyond is silly.

I don't think the one bye week will be popular, but it could be a negotiating chip if the season moves up a week.

If they only go to one bye during the season they really should have a bye week before an expanded playoff starts. Just too hard on the players otherwise

Results seem to indicate too much rest before playoffs is a bad thing.  Maybe 1 week off is better than 0 or 2 but apparently too much rest isn't good either.

IU was the only team to have a bye for the 1st round of the playoffs and still win.

yeah, three weeks is too much. Only Cig has figured out how to deal with it.

Too small of a sample size, IMO

@gros-louis It is and the rules changed too. Like Boise had a bye against Penn State who was better. Same with Arizona State (who should've beaten Texas). Ohio State was better than Oregon and Georgia played with their backup QB against ND. A lot of variables.

Last year: Oregon was better than Texas Tech and Ole Miss and Miami won close(ish) games.

It is all we have at the moment and there aren't supposed to be fair games.   The team with the bye is supposed to be the better team and yet so far we have seen upsets in  7 of 8 games.   That is a pretty strong indicator that too much rest is at the very least something that presents a challenge rather than being a benefit.

@hurryinghoosiers Maybe, but Ohio State was a favorite against Oregon. Texas was a favorite over Arizona State, Penn State over Boise State and Georgia was a 1.5 point favorite over ND in 2024. Favorites went 3-1 and the one that lost was essentially a pick 'em with a backup QB.

In 2025, betting favorites went 1-3. Oregon was just a 1.5 underdog. It may be overrested, but I don't count 2024 because that was a seeding issue.

I'd rather have a second bye in-season than an extra week off in the postseason. Move the start of the season to what is now Week 0. Play Army-Navy on Dec. 5th weekend and put the first round of a 24-team Playoff the weekend after that. Second round also on campus, then quarterfinals and semis at Bowl sites and National title anywhere but Miami. And in actuality, you can make it to where the season ends Jan 1 and hold the national title at the Rose Bowl.

College Football needs to stop allowing the NFL to bully them on TV times in December and January as well. The title game should be played on a Saturday.

That's not exactly true in the first year of the 12 team playoff.  The byes went to the 4 highest ranked conference champions, not the 4 highest ranked teams like in year 2.  Admittedly, there were clearly 3 out of 4 upsets this season.
