Routs
I really like how our team looked overall in that. WR drops were to a minimum, including some very difficult catches. OL looked excellent outside of a couple plays. Mendoza (doesnt matter which one) were killers. We have a squad gentlemen.
BEAT ILLINOIS
@hoosierdaddy yes, and we are going to find out how good of a squad we have next Saturday night. I can hardly wait for that one!
Great execution tonight.
Against a good opponent, I worry about:
Run defense. Speed on defense. Pursuit and D-line penetration.
Offensively, maybe ability to score in the air in the red zone, although Becker and Staes both showed growth today.
And then maybe poise - can Mendoza still look down feld when he's flushed outside.
@tr32 He looked pretty good standing in the pocket and getting the throw off with a defender in his face (he probably reverted back to Cal mode lol). With that said (and I know Benson was out), I think there were too many plays he had to throw under pressure/escape the pocket against this defense
Only thing I noticed that is a negative , was I was surprised Sarrat didn't get more touches but that's hardly a complaint ... nearly flawless game against a putrid opponent... which is exactly what we needed heading into Illinois
Very disappointed with the Beebe injury. I know he only had 6 touches, but you’re up more than 50…get Martin and Cuono some run. Will be a massive loss if he’s out as long as it seemed like when watching, imo.
Outside of that, just penalties.
thought they looked very good in most facets. We can quibble with the defense but they’ve given up just 221 ypg and forced a lot of TFL’s and turnovers.
@hoosiers94 Saratt got his head chewed off on either the 2nd or 3rd throw of the game. Im just glad he wasnt concussed.
Really proud of the product IU put on the field today. This not only reminds me of last year, but this is a much more athletic version. We look like a blue blood bullying the little guy. To think a couple years ago we were getting bullied by G5 teams.
We are going to beat the crud out of Illinois, and its going to be a joy to watch. GO HOOSIERS
@iureactionary I'm with you. Beebe if out next week is a real - against that team to our west. I have to say the young guys carrying the ball at the end show real promise. Against Illinois our OL needs to win the LOS without question.
Something I'm starting to feel comfortable with is the fact that "Little Mendoza" can run the offense and be more than just a game manager. I hope Fernando stays in the field the entire season, but this is the best I've felt about quarterback depth in MANY years.
@vern-pain it looked like he took a major step forward in the spring to me. Then continued in fall camp and now he looks really good.
Yeah, Alberto looks like a good QB. Mobile, good arm talent. Great to see.
