Is this a thing: HS kid really wants to come to IU, but he's just not shown he's up to the standard. Does IU level with the kid, tell him to go to a MAC school or JC or whatever, and then keep an eye on him with the intention of offering him if/when he improves enough?
The 4D Chess move this past portal cycle I'm hoping the IU staff undertook was to develop a dialogue with some O-Line targets that were coming off Freshman or Sophomore seasons with good tape, snap counts, and measureables to tell them you're on IUs radar for the '27 portal cycle.
Goes for any position group really, but O-Line specifically, our Hoosiers are likely going to be in the market to replace and add depth in '27.
@unclemark School's used to do that with JUCO players all the time, so I would not be surprised if it still isn't done like that now.
@unclemark- I figure there must be at least a 25% chance or maybe way more, that a player is in the portal at some point in their career, regardless of where they go. So even if you want them out of HS but they go elsewhere, its good to leave on good terms because that player could be a big get out of the portal later on.
@boogie meant Barker and Thiry. Believe both were on the roster last year and played in the spring game. So, add Schott on top of that and if you're Oglesby, that's a lot of young guys with lots of elibility ahead of you.
