Not surprising. And very cool.
I wonder how many of Memorial's ~53.5K seats were sold to season ticket holders. Last year we had ~33-35K season ticket holders. Usually there is a some small allocation for single game tickets, though I expect when those go on sale the season ticket holders will get first cut and buy them up.
There are probably some relatively cheap ways to add a little more capacity -- mostly in the SEZ where a lot of space isn't utilized very well. If there was a time to do it, it's now!
Anyways, this is so darn great for IU athletics.

Source? I mean, the deadline for renewal isn't even until March 31, so are they just assuming 100% renewal rates? This doesn't make any sense.

It's just what IU is saying.
If I had a guess, they probably allocate something like 45-48K seats to season tickets and they know either by renewal or waitlisted requests they've got enough demand to sell out.
I have to say I'm surprised given the price increases & the relative amount of trouble they had selling out this past Fall. But this is wonderful news.
And I know for a fact that they block off some tickets for the visitor allotment, I don't know how many, but they'll resell any unused tickets as single game tickets. And I imagine there are probably 100-300 tickets blocked off every game for recruiting visits.
They'll be hard pressed to come up with a way to add seats quickly while keeping the overall aesthetic. Best I can figure is that they could put up some bleachers on the SEZ covering & above the terrace level suites. Although that would tax the bathroom facilities up there pretty badly. With what they're charging for those suites, there's no way they eliminate them.
@tmft Only realistic thing I could see happening is fitting more suites in the SEZ -- like the double-decker PGA Tour style ones.
Aside from that, we'll probably have to wait for whatever the next renovation plan is.

Sold out for new season ticket holders. if someone doesn't renew, then more will become available for new season ticket holders.
We posted this last night.

@tammany I would say in the upper 30s unless you're counting students. Students get like 10,000 seats I guess. Visitors get a couple thousand as well.

I'm about 95% sure I'm not renewing, so there will be at least a couple available on April Fool's Day.
