Bucket Week Matchup to Watch: Indiana's Defense vs. Rondale Moore

This is the game. The game that determines which team will go to a bowl game and which team will be at home for the month of December. The same exact situation that the Hoosiers and Boilermakers were in just a year ago, both teams just one win away from bowl eligibility. Not only is this for bowl eligibility, but it is also for the Old Oaken Bucket, which is given to the winner of the match-up each year.

Week 12 Game Day Primer: Indiana Hoosiers at Michigan Wolverines

Week 12 Game Day Primer: Indiana Hoosiers at Michigan Wolverines

Written by T.J. Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)

What: Indiana Hoosiers (5-5) at Michigan Wolverines (9-1)

Where: Michigan Stadium

When: Saturday, November 17 at 4:00

How to Watch: The game will be broadcast on FOX. You can also listen to the legendary Don Fischer on the radio on any IU Radio Network station.

What’s at Stake: The Michigan Wolverines have a whole lot at stake as they enter this game at 9-1 and in control of their College Playoff Football destiny. They know that if they can beat Indiana, win in Columbus against archrival Ohio State (and complete their Revenge Tour) and then beat Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship game, they will be in the College Football Playoff and have a shot at the National Championship. In addition, Saturday is Senior Day and a number of high-profile players will play in Michigan Stadium for the final time. Indiana is sitting at 5-5 after a dramatic victory over Maryland. This game represents one of two chances to earn bowl eligibility. IU has not won at Michigan since the 1960s so the much more realistic opportunity comes next Saturday in the Old Oaken Bucket game.

Week 12 Matchup to Watch: Indiana's Offense vs. Michigan's Defense

Indiana has two remaining games in the regular season and they need one more win to become bowl eligible. This weekend is going to be one of the toughest matchups they have had all season because of how well rounded Michigan is this year. They are ranked fourth in the country however, in the last few years, the competition between the two teams has been good and Indiana has put up a fight, last year taking them to overtime at home. This year, the Hoosiers travel to Ann Arbor and they are going to look to give the number one ranked defense in the country, a run for their money.

Week Eleven Primer – Maryland Terrapins

What: Indiana Hoosiers (4-5) vs. Maryland Terrapins (5-4)

Where: Memorial Stadium

When: Saturday, November 10 at noon

How to Watch: The game will be broadcast on BTN. You can also listen to the legendary Don Fischer on the radio on any IU Radio Network station.

What’s at Stake: Indiana is currently stuck in the depths of a four-game losing streak and they desperately need a victory to bring some positivity back to the program. Closing the season by losing seven straight games is a nightmarish way to enter the offseason. In addition, if the Hoosiers are to keep any hope of a bowl game in 2018, they must win on Saturday. They won’t be winning next weekend at Michigan but Purdue is still a winnable contest (the Boilers look like the much better side but you just never know). On the other side, the Maryland Terrapins are just one win from bowl eligibility and this is the first of three cracks they’ll have to get that sixth victory. With their final two games against Ohio State and at Penn State, this will serve as their best shot at reaching a bowl game.

Week Nine Primer – Minnesota Golden Gophers

What: Indiana Hoosiers (4-4) at Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-4)

Where: TCF Bank Stadium

When: Friday, October 26, 8:00 pm

How to Watch: The game will be broadcast on FS1. You can also listen to the legendary Don Fischer on the radio on any IU Radio Network station.

What’s at Stake: To be blunt, the success or failure of the season likely hangs in the balance on Friday night for both Indiana and Minnesota. The Golden Gophers still have potentially winnable games against Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin and Northwestern. Beating Indiana gives them four wins and means they just need two of those final four games to go bowling. The Hoosiers are in better shape, with four wins in hand, a victory in Minneapolis places Indiana one victory from bowl eligibility with a matchup at home against Maryland in two weeks. The losing team will be very, very unlikely to make a bowl game this season.

Coming off three straight losses, the Hoosiers need a win this weekend to snap that losing streak and turn things around for the remaining three games of the season, especially if they want to be bowl eligible. They sit at 4-4 on the season and a win this weekend would put them above .500 which could give them the momentum and confidence they need to get at least another win this season. They head to Minneapolis this week to take on the Gophers for their first game under those Friday night lights.

Matchup to Watch: Indiana Defense vs Minnesota Defense

Matchup to Watch: Indiana Defense vs Minnesota Defense

From as early on as when Tom Allen had just been named head coach of Indiana, his wish would be that each game would come down to his defense’s ability to shut down the opponent. “I challenged our defense to be the reason why. I felt like you just get all the negative feedback of ‘Well if the defense would’ve just done this’ or ‘If we could’ve just gotten a stop here,” well I challenged our defense to be the reason why.” Well, this week we may have exactly Coach Allen’s wish: a game that will be decided by the team’s respective defenses, who we have highlighted here in this week’s matchup to watch.
