Week 6: Penn State Nittany Lions

Our game previews are now reaching the midway point of the season. We’ve been through the non-conference and we’ve taken a look at the B1G opener against the defending champions. IU’s Week 6 opponent is another traditional power but, unlike the Buckeyes, Penn State has not yet returned to the elite of the college football world. It’s likely that IU will enter this contest at either 3-2 or 4-1 while Penn State will probably come in at 5-0 (and ranked in the Top 25). IU is 0-8 at Beaver Stadium and just 1-17 all-time against the Nittany Lions so Penn State will be considered a heavy favorite by most.

As part of Hoosier Huddle’s ongoing preseason coverage, we thought it would be fun and informative to take a look at some of the best individuals from each position that the Hoosiers will battle against in 2015. We’re starting with a staff ranking of the five best quarterbacks that Brian Knorr’s defense will be tasked with stopping.

Week 5: Ohio State Buckeyes

We have previewed the non-conference schedule which means it’s time to turn our focus to the beginning of the grind that is the B1G season. The Hoosiers could be a disastrous 2-2. However, it is also entirely possible that they will enter conference play at 4-0, setting up one of the more anticipated IU football games in recent memory. The Buckeyes figure to roll into Bloomington full of confidence and ranked #1 in the country (unless one of their pre-conference opponents pulls off a stunning upset). They are the heavy favorites to win the B1G East and they will be heavily favored to win this contest and move to 5-0. That being said, a strong start to IU’s 2015 season would create an electric atmosphere around Bloomington and inside of Memorial Stadium and this could turn into a great opportunity for this IU team to show they belong on the field with one of the country’s best, make things interesting against the Buckeyes and create some positive fan interest for the rest of the season.

Week 3: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

When Western Kentucky makes their way to Bloomington for a week three showdown with Indiana, it will be the first time in the 2015 season that the Hoosiers will face a true test. Don't get me wrong, Southern Illinois and Florida International both present challenges in their own right, but neither should be in the game when crunch times rolls around. If Indiana has difficulty putting either of those teams away, it could spell for a real long season for the Hoosiers. The Hilltoppers on the other hand, will provide Coach Wilson and his staff an honest assessment for how far their defense has come.

Week 2: Florida International Panthers

As you read last week, the Indiana Hoosiers will open the 2015 season by hosting the Southern Illinois Salukis. This week, our preview rolls on and takes a look at IU’s week 2 opponent, the Florida International Panthers. FIU is a member of Conference USA and will come into this contest after opening their season at Central Florida. These first two games are contests that IU absolutely has to have in order to achieve their paramount goal of six wins and a postseason berth. FIU isn’t a juggernaut by any means but they will be a step up in competition from the opening week opponent and the Hoosiers will need to play a solid contest to feel comfortable about the outcome.

2015 Season Preview: September 5th Southern Illinois Salukis

The 2015 season is fast approaching we are a little over 12 weeks until the Hoosiers open the 2015 season by hosting the Southern Illinois Salukis. The Salukis, members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, are the 4th straight FCS opponent that IU will open the season against (previous three were victories over Indiana State). A loss in the opener would be catastrophic for IU’s bowl game hopes and would derail all momentum gained from beating the Boilers to close the 2014 season. So, what kind of challenges will SIU present? Let’s take a look as we begin our weekly opponent previews here at Hoosier Huddle.

Week 1: Southern Illinois Salukis
Time & Date: September 5, 2015 - TBA
Venue: Memorial Stadium (Bloomington, IN)
TV: TBA
Salukis at a Glance:
