Game Recap and Takeaways:
The Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Soccer Program faced off against Saint Louis University today at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington and lost by a score of 1-0 in the round of 32 of the 2025 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament.
During the first half, the Hoosiers fell behind but had more chances at goal by a considerable margin. Unfortunately, nothing went through and the Hoosiers entered halftime down 1 to 0. Now, this is nothing new to this Hoosiers team. Throughout the 2025 season, Indiana has had several comeback wins. So much so that I’ve called them the ‘comeback kids’ countless times in previous game recaps. Coming out of half, I had full confidence that the Hoosiers, at the very least, would not quit in their fight – that’s simply not in their DNA.
And the Hoosiers certainly did not quit in their fight. Time and time again the Hoosiers charged into Saint Louis’ opposing box and time and time again the chances were snuffed out by the Saint Louis back line. It was a disappointing finish for the Hoosiers after an incredibly strong season overall. The Hoosiers earned the sixth overall seed in the NCAA Tournament – despite missing the Big Ten Tournament – due to a strong resume and RPI relative to the rest of the country.
The Hoosiers have a lot to be proud of this season as they continued their NCAA records for NCAA Tournament appearances, consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, NCAA Tournament national seedings, and were even ranked as the #1 overall team in the country for a period of time this season. Unfortunately, the season ended earlier than expected for the Hoosiers. Head Coach Todd Yeagley and his staff will no doubt already be prepping for the 2026 season with their eyes set on Indiana’s ninth overall national title.
Hoosiers Player of the Match:
It’s tough to pick a Player of the Match in a 1-0 loss in the NCAA Tournament, but I’d still like to highlight Palmer Ault. He is, without a doubt, Indiana’s best and most dangerous player and is on the MAC Hermann Trophy (College Soccer’s Heisman Trophy equivalent) Watch List.
He has won Indiana several games single handedly in the past and tallied the most total points in the entire country. He earned several Big Ten accolades and hopes to earn national accolades soon as well. Ault will be remembered as one of the best strikers to come through the program and, despite the loss today, deserves to be recognized for his masterful performances.
