Top 5 Heisman Trophy Candidates
/In a year of record breaking games and fantastic play, picking the top 5 Heisman Trophy candidates has been challenging! We aren’t going to let you down, though, as this knowledge about the future of the game can dramatically affect your college football championship odds!
Below is our list of favorites for the trophy, so study their odds and place your bets!
Matt Corral - QB - Ole Miss Rebels
No one saw Matt Corral coming, and yet his performance so far has been outstanding! Corral has become the top contender for the Heisman Trophy because of his 287 yard pass, along with his 2 touchdowns passing performance. The figure doesn’t stop there as he has created a 94 rushing yard with 2 touchdowns and an average 6.3 yards per carry rating. If all these numbers seem overwhelming, know that this underdog player has now raced up to the big leagues!
Corral did have a bad game against Alabama, but even then, he still managed to complete 21 passes which totaled 213 yards and included a touchdown! Matt Corral has done better, but these numbers are nothing to shake your head at.
Corral is evidence that the beginning of the season means nothing; you don’t know who the real competition is until you’re in the thick of it!
Kenneth Walker - RB - Michigan State Spartans
Walker leads the nation in running with 929 yards and nine touchdowns. He is averaging over seven yards a carry. The Spartans are 6-0 heading into their road game with the Indiana Hoosiers this week. If Walker can continue these numbers and against Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, Walker has a really solid chance at getting an invite to New York City in December.
Bryce Young - QB - Alabama
Not only is Bryce Young an amazing player, but he has been standing next to Mac Jones and looking up to this star quarterback before taking over his spot. Young becoming a Heisman Trophy Candidate is even more likely after studying under this great performer!
As Alabama’s junior quarterback, Young still managed to earn the 2020 national title and set a new record for the single-season passer. In his 9 games of play, he passed just 22 times and completed 13 of them.
Mac Jones has now moved to the NFL draft, so Young will have more air time to show us what he is made of. Everyone is watching him as he could become Alabama’s most talented player! On the 247Sports Composite rankings, Bryce Young is higher than Julio Jones with a count of 0.9994.
When Young played for Mater Dei High School, he passed for over 13,000 yards and completed exactly 152 touchdowns!
With so many stats in his favor, Young just needs to play as amazingly as everyone predicts to earn a spot among the Heisman Trophy legends!
CJ Stroud - QB - Ohio State
Ohio State lost early, but new quarterback CJ Stroud is rounding into form after an injury. In five games Stroud has posted over 1,600 yards passing with 18 touchdowns to just three interceptions. The Buckeyes look like they are rolling through the Big Ten again and Stroud is leading the way.
Desmond Ridder - QB - CIncinnati
Ridder has the Bearcats ranked third in the country and much of that is thanks to his steady hand at quarterback. Ridder has completed 65.5-percent of his passes for 1,304 yards along with 12 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 104 yards and three more scores. Ridder performed well in his marquee games this year and will need to continue to put up monster numbers the rest of the way since the level of competition will dip a little as the season goes on.
Summary
It’s still all to play for, and there are a good number of other players that could receive that Heisman Trophy nomination, but we will be sticking to our top five suggestions!
