Scores From Around the Nation: IUFB Opponent Recap

As an Indiana fan, if you’re not looking ahead at the remaining schedule at this point… Well, you must have a much stronger will than I do. The Hoosiers are fresh off another beatdown of a conference foe, this time easily handling Nebraska 56-7 to bring the Hoosiers to 7-0. It seems as if the Hoosiers are for real, and anything is a possibility in the remainder of the season. Let’s take a look at how their remaining schedule fared this past weekend.

Overall Opponent Record Remaining Schedule: 18-16

Washington (4-3): Last Week Bye

For the fourth time in their five conference games, Indiana will once again face a team fresh off their bye week. Washington had an up and down couple of weeks before the bye, defeating Michigan but then falling victim to Iowa.

Michigan State (4-3): Last Week Win vs Iowa 32-20

It’s not often that a place kicker could be the headline story after a win, but it is a game with the Iowa Hawkeyes involved, so anything is possible. In Jonathan Smith, the place kicker for Michigan State, the Spartans have a legitimate weapon. Smith kicked a school-record six field goals in this week’s victory, making him 15-of-16 for the year and bringing his point total for the season to 58. Adding in the two extra points he tacked on and Smith accounted for 20 points, matching Iowa’s team total.

Michigan (4-3): Last Week Loss at Illinois 21-7

A classic Big Ten battle broke out between the Wolverines and Illini with Illinois ultimately pulling away. Old friend Jack Tuttle started at quarterback for Michigan but finished the game 20-for-32 for 208 yards and one interception. The Wolverines lost two fumbles as well, ultimately losing the turnover battle 3-0. The loss marked the first time that they have lost back-to-back games since 2020, and their seven points scored were its fewest since 2014.

Ohio State (5-1): Last Week Bye

Ohio State rested after losing to Oregon the week prior, and now will gear up for a Fox Big Noon Kickoff game at home against Nebraska.

Purdue (1-6): Last Week Loss vs Oregon 35-0

It seemed like the stars were aligning for a classic Spoilermaker spot – Oregon off a dramatic win against Ohio State and having to travel to West Lafayette on a Friday night – but Oregon easily handled Purdue on the road, shutting them out for a 35-0 victory. A bad season has only gotten worse for Purdue as they head to a bye week with many clamoring for a coaching change.
