Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 85 Days (McCall Ray)

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown is in full swing! We are exactly 85 days from kickoff in Madison. Today we feature the Hoosier who will wear the No. 85 jersey in the upcoming season, McCall Ray.
Name – McCall Ray
Year / Hometown: Redshirt Freshman from Bedford, Indiana (Bedford North Lawrence)
Position – Wide Receiver
Height – 5’11”
Weight – 207 pounds
A dream come true, McCall Ray joined the Hoosiers as a preferred walk-on during 2019 fall camp. A hop, skip and a jump from his hometown of Bedford, Ray was a multi-sport athlete at Bedford North Lawrence, as he was a four-year letter winner in football and basketball, and a one-year letter winner for baseball. Ray played on both sides of the ball for the BNL Stars— at quarterback and cornerback.
Upon entrance to a talent-filled wide receiver room, Ray burned his redshirt last season. He has been a key in preparing the Hoosiers for opponents, and earned Special teams scout player of the week for his efforts that helped lead the Hoosiers to a 38-3 blowout victory over UConn in Bloomington.
“(Ray) came in here, a local guy from Bedford-North Lawrence High School, really good athlete, works hard, does everything we ask him to do, gives tons of effort,” Allen said of Ray after the UConn game.
Even with the loss of Nick Westbrook and Donovan Hale, depth at wide receiver is stacked— Whop Philyor, Ty Fryfogle, David Ellis, Miles Marshall, Jordan Jakes, Jacolby Hewitt, and Da’shaun Brown are all scholarship players returning this season. With a year of experience, expect Ray to make more contributions behind the scenes as he will be a key in Hoosiers preparation for battle in the upcoming season.
