How Former Hoosiers Fared in Week 4 of the 2020 NFL Season
/Written by Evan McShane
Indiana had seven players active on NFL Sunday and one on Thursday. This group of former Hoosiers managed one touchdown this week while several tasted victory. Let’s take a look around the league and check in on these ex-IU players and how they’re doing.
Rodger Saffold, LG, Tennessee Titans (3-0)
Rodger Saffold and the Tennessee Titans had their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers postponed until October 25th due to positive coronavirus tests within the Titans’ organization.
Jordan Howard, RB, Miami Dolphins (1-3)
Jordan Howard and the Miami Dolphins couldn’t pull of the upset at home against the Seattle Seahawks. Howard carried the ball just two times for two total yards. Howard caught one pass, but he lost three yards on the play. Howard had scored a touchdown in each of the first three games but was unable to find the end zone this week. Howard hopes to get more involved in the Dolphins offense next week when Miami travels to San Francisco.
Tevin Coleman, RB, San Francisco 49ers (2-1)
Tevin Coleman was inactive for San Francisco’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
Nate Sudfeld, QB, Philadelphia Eagles (0-2-1)
Nate Sudfeld was inactive for Philadelphia’s win over the 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
Dan Feeney, LG, Los Angeles Chargers (1-3)
Dan Feeney again got the start at left guard in the Chargers loss against Tampa Bay. LA jumped out to a big early lead, only to squander it away in the second half. Feeney has been reliable at his position, but the Chargers only managed 46 rushing yards as a team on 23 attempts. LA hopes to get back on track next week when they travel to New Orleans.
Ian Thomas, TE, Carolina Panthers (2-2)
Ian Thomas found the end zone for the first time this season and helped his Carolina Panthers pick up a big win. Thomas caught just two passes for five yards, but his touchdown gave Carolina a comfortable lead that they never relinquished. Thomas has three catches on the season for 25 total yards and one touchdown. Hopefully, this touchdown reception is what gets the young tight end going. Ian Thomas and the Panthers will go for their third straight victory next week against the Atlanta Falcons.
Jason Spriggs, OT, Chicago Bears (3-1)
Jason Spriggs was active in a backup role as the Bears suffered their first loss of the season against the Indianapolis Colts.
Wes Martin, OL, Washington Football Team (1-3)
Wes Martin got the start at left guard once again for the Washington Football Team’s loss against the Baltimore Ravens. Washington posted 343 yards of total offense but managed just 69 rushing yards as a team. Martin has been getting substantial playing time this season, but after a week one upset win, Washington has struggled in three straight losses. Washington will host the Rams next week where they hope to get back in the win column.
Brandon Knight, OL, Dallas Cowboys (1-3)
Brandon Knight got the bulk of his snaps at right tackle on Sunday as the Cowboys could not overcome Cleveland’s offensive explosion. Dallas would lose the game 49-38, but by all accounts, Knight has made the most of his early opportunity to play.
The Cowboys hope to right the ship next week against the Giants. Meanwhile, Knight seems to have earned himself more playing time in the future.
Nick Westbrook, WR, Tennessee Titans (3-0)
Nick Westbrook and the Tennessee Titans had their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers postponed until October 25th due to positive coronavirus tests within the Titans’ organization.
Simon Stepaniak, OL, Green Bay Packers (3-0)
Simon Stepaniak was inactive for the Green Bay Packers victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.
Total Hoosier Touchdowns: 4 (Jordan Howard 3, Ian Thomas 1)
