#58
We are now only 58 days away from IU’s opening game against the Southern Illinois Salukis. That means our countdown is looking at #58 on this year’s Hoosiers, Patrick Dougherty.
Patrick Dougherty
-Height: 6’5”
-Weight: 285 pounds
-Hometown: Aurora, Ohio (Aurora High School)
-Year/Position: RS Sophomore/DT
Redshirt Sophomore Patrick Dougherty came to Indiana after a successful career at Aurora High School in Aurora, Ohio. Dougherty played on the defensive line for head coach Bob Mihalik and posted 120 tackles, 12 sacks, a safety, 50 tackles for loss, 15 pass breakups and 3 forced fumbles during his final two high school seasons. That productivity earned him first-team all-state selection as a senior (in addition to all-district and all-conference honors). He helped his team advance to the state semifinals in both 2011 and 2012. In addition to his success on the football field, Dougherty starred on the hardwood, averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds during his junior season.
Dougherty was a 3-star recruit that chose Indiana over offers from several MAC schools, Cincinnati, Syracuse and Boston College. He redshirted his 2013 freshman season and was named the scout team player of the week during preparation for the Minnesota game. During 2014, he didn’t see any game action. Heading into fall camp, I think Dougherty is probably on the fringes off the rotation for the defensive line. We haven’t really seen what Dougherty has to offer yet but his career is still young and it’s very possible that he will get the chance to see the field in 2015 and make a positive impression.
