Countdown to Kickoff: #41 – Mo Burnam
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 235 pounds
Hometown: Conyers, GA (Salem)
Class/Position: RS Freshman/Linebacker
Mo Burnam will look to make a significant impact for the Hoosier defense in 2018. Burnam was a three-star recruit from Salem High School in Conyers, Georgia. A decorated career included First Team All-Region, All-County and All-Area selections. Burnam, an extremely versatile athlete, played basketball and ran track and field. He was the 23rd ranked linebacker in the 2017 recruiting class, per ESPN. The Georgia native committed to Tennessee initially, but ultimately decided Bloomington was the best for him. In addition to UT and IU, Burnam had offers from Florida State, Louisville, Oregon, Cincinnati, and many more. Burnam committed to IU on Christmas Day:
Burnam was a huge addition to the Indiana football program. He redshirted during his first season, earning scout team player of the week in September. Burnam proved he would be capable of stepping up and contributing in a big way. He has size for a linebacker at 6-foot-2 – similar to former Hoosier Christ Covington. As a recruit, Burnam was listed at 215lbs, but IUHoosiers.com has his listed at 235lbs. It’s safe to say Indiana’s new strength and conditioning team of David Ballou and Matt Rhea are having a major impact on the program. Even at that size, Burnam posted a 4.62 40-yard dash according to HUDL.com.
Hoosier fans will need to be on the lookout for Mo Burnam because he’s likely to be all over the field. His raw athleticism combined with his positional versatility will make for a sharp weapon in Tom Allen’s defensive tool box. Burnam is one of Indiana’s biggest linebackers and he should be able to step into a starting role. There are a lot of question marks on the defensive end for this Hoosier team, so a lot of scenarios could unfold. Nevertheless, Mo Burnam has talent and untapped potential. 2018 will be IU fan’s first chance to see what Burnam can do.
