BOOM! Carmel Defensive End Britt Beery Commits to IU

Sunday was an eventful day in Bloomington as Kevin Wilson's squad held an energetic open practice at Memorial Stadium and Tom Crean's team ended their day by cutting down the nets at Assembly Hall. However, the fireworks were not finished as the Hoosiers picked up their fifth commitment for the class of 2017 in in-state defensive end Britt Beery.
Beery is rated by 247 Sports as a three-star prospect as well as the seventh best player in the state and the 608th best in the nation. Beery was in Bloomington on Sunday to take in the Hoosiers' second spring practice and he liked what he saw. On a day when the administration announced a plan to close the south end zone of Memorial Stadium, Beery said he can "just feel the commitment to football is exciting. The buzz around the program is tremendous. You can feel the players' confidence and recruiting is attracting top level talent in-state and out-of-state."
A six-foot-seven and 240 pounds, Beery has the frame to grow into a sturdy Big Ten lineman, but may be moved to the interior. He is being "recruited as a defensive lineman and I've been told how I develop will dictate playing inside or outside." He played the defensive end position in a 3-4 scheme in high school. He had offers from Syracuse, Ball State, Miami (OH), and New Mexico. His main recruiters at IU were James Patton and the now departed Larry McDaniel, but he says new defensive line coach Mark Hagen is a hit with his as well. Beery called Hagan a "great player at Carmel and is a great coach and recruiter. He has coached some great players over the years. He stresses fundamentals and getting after people. He is the kind of coach you want to play hard for."
His commitment boosts the Hoosiers' 2017 class to 22nd nationally and keeps them at fourth in the Big Ten.
