/Written by: Zachary Greene
Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2023 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season on September 2nd against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Every day, we look at players on the current roster and highlight the players' roles in the upcoming season. Today we into corner and local product Mitchell Evans.
Name: Mitchell Evans
Hometown: Greenwood, Indiana
High School : Cedar Groove
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Freshman
Evans enters his second season with the program after being recruited by former Hoosier Safety Coach Jason Jones who is now at the University of North Carolina. Out of Cedar Groove High School Evans received interested from Power Five Schools but two schools took a hard look at him. IU and Air Force. After much thought Evans decided to stay in state and join the program as a preferred walk-on.
Last season, Evans made a lone appearance against Penn State. He earned special teams scout team player of the week honors against Idaho, Cincinnati, and Penn Sate. Also he earned defensive scout team player of the week against Penn State and Michigan State.
This season, Evan will be behind a veteran defensive back group, allowing him to gain knowledge of being a good leader on and off the field. Expect Evans to work hard during practice and earn some more player of the week honors this season.
His one word for this season is Overcome.
