/Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)
We are closing in on the start of the 2022 football season with just 17 days to go. Today we take a look at safety Jonathan Haynes.
#17
Jonathan Haynes (Senior+)
Hometown: Benoit, Mississippi
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 202 Pounds
Position: Defensive Back
Haynes arrived in Bloomington during fall camp in 2021 from Ole Miss. He played in four games and missed eight total games due to injuries. In those four games he made five tackles.
At Ole Miss, Haynes played in 21 games with 17 starts. He has two career interceptions to go along with 86 tackles. Prior to Ole Miss Haynes was the No. 5 JUCO safety out of Jones College.
“Jonathan Haynes, he's not a guy that we got to see hardly at all last year because he was injured when he got into fall camp. He is one of our most gifted athletes on the entire team. Had the Achilles issue last year and never really got to where he was able to play so we ended up redshirting him and now he's back. He's another guy that to me adds a lot of depth.” Indiana head coach Tom Allen said during spring practice.
Haynes is healthy now and should be a major factor in the rotation. That will improve IU’s depth in the secondary and get another very good athlete on the field.
