Although uncertain, five football-less weekends remain until the Hoosiers are set to kick off the 2020 season in Madison. The Hoosiers are set to face the Badgers on Friday, September 4th. While voluntary workouts have been paused with six positive COVID-19 tests amongst the IUFB squad and staff, we wait for a game plan to safely play college football with Coronavirus and a conference-only schedule. That being said, with 37 days until scheduled play, we feature Indiana’s own Ahrod Lloyd, who will wear the cream and crimson No. 37 jersey in 2020.
Hailing from Indianapolis, Ahrod Lloyd’s list of honors for his four-year letterwinning football career is rather lengthy. He left a permanent mark on Park Tudor High School’s football program, a career that ended with 4,734 rushing yards, 1,006 receiving yards, and 47 touchdowns. He slashed the record for both yards in a game (309) and yards in a season (1689). All four years he was named team MVP, in 2013 on offense, and overall in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Lloyd started as a walk-on at Indiana and redshirted in 2017. He was a key contributor in preparing for game day and a four-time scout team player of the week. As a redshirt freshman, he saw the field in nine games on special teams, making his debut against Ball State, and returned a kick for 22 yards in the 34-32 victory over Maryland. This time last year, Lloyd was scholarship-less.
On August 27th, 2019 Lloyd’s two-season grind was recognized as he was granted an Indiana football scholarship. Lloyd played in all 13 games last season, rushing 10 times for 19 yards and returning here kicks for 45 yards. He was honored IU’s outstanding walk-on player of the year award during the Hoosiers’ virtual awards banquet in May.
In a stacked running back room led by Stevie Scott and Sampson James, Lloyd will compete with David Ellis, Tim Baldwin, Chris Childers, and Davion Ervin-Poindexter to get the chance to make plays. While there will be a battle for time at RB, expect Lloyd to be a key contributor on special teams at the very least, and more chances at RB.
