While some may scoff at this and say that kick return is just not that important or we are reaching here, there is immense value in these “hidden” yards. According to Bill Connelly’s book Study Hall which chronicled the 2012 college football season teams that held a significant starting field position advantage tended to win the game more often than not.

The Indiana Hoosiers added a true cover corner to the 2017 Hoosier Army as former Minnesota commit Raheem Layne flipped late in the process and signed to play for Tom Allen’s defense. The 3-star recruit chose IU over Minnesota, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Iowa and others. At the time of his commitment, he was, remarkably, the ninth IU prospect in the 2017 class from the Sunshine State.

With Signing Day just about 36 hours away the Indiana Hoosiers got a shot in their arm for the secondary as cornerback Raheem Layne committed to IU on Monday evening. Layne de-committed from Minnesota on January 23rd after taking an official visit to Indiana on Jan. 13th.
