Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Penn State Nittany Lions (5-1, 2-0) pulled away from the injury-depleted Indiana Hoosiers (4-2, 0-2) for a 29-7 victory. Indiana played without quarterback Nate Sudfeld and running back Jordan Howard and lost backup quarterback Zander Diamont early in the third quarter to a shoulder injury. The mounting injuries and a dominant Penn State defense limited the Hoosiers to only 234 yards of offense and one score.

It was back in April when the Big Ten announced that the conference’s athletic directors had unanimously recommended both the beginning of a new football division alignment for 2014, in addition to a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2016.  The new division configurations were announced immediately.  They will feature Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers in the East Division while the West Division consists of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin.

However, the Big Ten brass waited a few months until coming out with the schedules for the new nine-game conference slate. But here it is…

We have finally made it; the Big Ten previews are here! No more breaking down MAC opponents, or even worse Missouri Valley Conference, yea I’m looking at you Sycamores. Today we jump ahead a week after the Hoosiers Week Five bye, and go straight to Week Six. I apologize to the truly hardcore Hoosier faithful who would want a break down of the off week, but ice baths and training tables just aren’t my thing!

Instead we are turning the calendar to October and looking ahead to Indiana’s Big Ten conference opener. The powers that be are even so intrigued by this game that they have yet to set a time or place it on a network, and will likely wait to see what type of threat the Hoosiers will present Penn State.

Catch the full preview after the jump!
