In the fourth installment of the Indiana football edition of ‘Hoosier Classics’ the Indiana athletic department is throwing it back to the magical 2007 season. Saturday’s showing of the Hoosiers’ 40-20 win over Minnesota is the first of three games from the 2007 season that saw the Hoosiers go 7-6 and earn a spot in the Insight Bowl.

Last week’s open week was the calm before the storm as Tom Allen and the Indiana Hoosiers face their second-highest ranked opponent of the 2019 season— the No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions. Can Tom Allen and the Indiana Hoosiers make history once again and pocket their first victory at Beaver Stadium? The answer lies in their ability to accomplish the following:

As spring practice wraps up around the Big Ten we wanted to talk a look, albeit a blurry one, at how the teams in the conference stand today. Spring is a tricky time to rank teams since graduated seniors and players leaving early are not practicing and most incoming freshmen have not arrived on campus yet. Here is how we see the Big Ten heading into the summer portion of the off-season.

Takeaways do Not Make Up for Lack of Pass Defense for Hoosiers

IU defense lacked pass coverage and a pass rush in its 38-31 loss to Minnesota. After tonight’s loss, IU’s record drops to below .500 for the first time this year at 4-5 (1-5), and the defense is a large reason why. Minnesota was without its starting quarterback, and redshirt freshman Tanner Morgan handled the IU defense with ease in the first half of his first career start. The secondary gave the receivers way too much room, and the defensive line could not pressure Morgan, and Minnesota dominated IU’s defense in the first half and took a commanding lead.

Week Nine Primer – Minnesota Golden Gophers

What: Indiana Hoosiers (4-4) at Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-4)

Where: TCF Bank Stadium

When: Friday, October 26, 8:00 pm

How to Watch: The game will be broadcast on FS1. You can also listen to the legendary Don Fischer on the radio on any IU Radio Network station.

What’s at Stake: To be blunt, the success or failure of the season likely hangs in the balance on Friday night for both Indiana and Minnesota. The Golden Gophers still have potentially winnable games against Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin and Northwestern. Beating Indiana gives them four wins and means they just need two of those final four games to go bowling. The Hoosiers are in better shape, with four wins in hand, a victory in Minneapolis places Indiana one victory from bowl eligibility with a matchup at home against Maryland in two weeks. The losing team will be very, very unlikely to make a bowl game this season.
