The offense has undeniably been the strongest unit of the Hoosiers in 2019. Even with the injury-stricken offensive line and unpredictable quarterback situation for the first half of the season, the one constant has been the tough running, timely pass catching and consistent blocking provided by sophomore running back Stevie Scott.

An entire team effort was what carried Indiana football to a hard-fought 34-28 victory over Maryland on Saturday.

It was junior quarterback Peyton Ramsey, though, that deserves the most credit for the season-changing win— he answered the call for back-up early Saturday and lead Hoosier offense to a record they haven’t been able to accomplish since 2007– five wins by mid-October.

What The Game Meant: We had labeled this game as a potential swing-game for the Hoosiers way back in the spring. It turned out to be just that. Indiana and Maryland are forming a solid rivalry on the gridiron playing fourth-straight one score games.

It wasn’t pretty, but the Hoosiers pulled off a narrow victory on the road over Maryland, 34-28. In a game and situation Indiana has historically come up short, this Saturday afternoon was different. IU out-gained Maryland 520 yards to 383 and dominated time of possession 35.5 minutes to 24.5. The Hoosiers were efficient, completing 29-of-41 passes as a team for 8.1 yards-per-pass to go along with 186 rushing yards on 32 attempts (good for 5.8 yards-per-carry). Despite losing quarterback Michael Penix to an undisclosed injury early in the game, Indiana did enough to hang on for the win. The Hoosiers advance to 5-2 on the season, one win away from bowl eligibility.
