Mendoza, Fisher Find Themselves as Finalists for National Awards

Two of the most recognizable Indiana Hoosier football players have been named finalists for major national awards. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza has been named a finalist for the Maxwell Award and the Davey O’Brien Award while linebacker Aiden Fisher was named a finalist for the Butkus Award.

Indiana’s game against UCLA couldn’t have been going better for Aiden Fisher. On the second play of the game, Fisher intercepted Nico Iamaleava’s pass and returned it for a touchdown. One play later, Fisher’s fortunes completely changed, as he got rolled up on, hurting his knee and knocking him out of the rest of the game as well as the following game against Maryland.

This was Indiana’s most difficult test left on paper in the regular season and it proved to be the toughest game to date. IU was on high “Upset Alert” as they trailed 24-20 with less than two minutes left. It turned into one of the legendary drives in IU Football history.

The No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers (9-0,6-0) lived up to their part, but Penn State (3-5, 0-5) has not as the bottom has fallen out in State College. While the luster may be off the matchup, there is still going to be a collision of NFL talent on the field.
