While the Indiana Hoosiers will be taking on the Indiana State Sycamores on Friday night in Bloomington, all eyes will be on the competition between the two Hoosier quarterbacks Tayven Jackson and Brendan Sorsby. Tom Allen announced after the game last Saturday that Jackson will start against the Sycamores after Sorsby got the nod against the Buckeyes.

The Hoosiers should be able to easily dispatch the Sycamores, but they need to show improvement in quarterback play and more aggressiveness on offense with the meat of the season coming up over the next couple weeks.

“I don't think either one of them just separated from the other. Just my opinion, just looking at it. You guys all saw the same thing I saw. Looking for that to continue this week. That's what we're looking for, someone just to separate and become the guy.” Indiana head coach Tom Allen said.

Sorsby finished 8-of-16 passing for 58 yards while Jackson was 1-of-5 for 24 yards. Neither quarterback threw an interception or made the critical error that doomed the Hoosiers in week one, but neither made the game breaking plays IU needs.

“But I think that they showed their youth in some situations.” Allen said. ”I thought they both showed poise. I think they both showed that the moment wasn't too big for them. But that was their first time playing that amount of snaps and at this level. So you just gotta continue to evaluate, which we will. And obviously they can both throw and both run it. And you just gotta be able to figure out who's the one who's going to give us the best opportunity to win on game day.”

Indiana State fell to Eastern Illinois 27-0 in week one while allowing 244 passing yards and 338 total yards. Jackson and Sorsby should have a much easier time making plays this week. If not, they will head into the Louisville game with major concerns.
