The news that Hoosier Nation has been waiting all summer and fall for arrived on Monday morning as Indiana head coach Tom Allen announced that redshirt freshman Tayven Jackson the starting quarterback.

“The one thing that I will say, we have two quarterbacks that can lead our team. That said, Tayven Jackson will be our starting quarterback.” Allen said at his Monday press conference.

Jackson was impressive in Indiana’s 41-7 win over Indiana State as he completed 18-of-21 passes for 236 yards. He ran for a touchdown as well.

“He’s made an unbelievable amount of growth and capitalized when his number was called upon.” Indiana offensive coordinator Walt Bell said.

Jackson was in competition with fellow redshirt freshman Brendan Sorsby who started the opener against Ohio State and went 9-of-16 for 108 yards in relief against Indiana State. Sorsby will need to be at the ready however.

“Tayven knows that he’s got to perform and Brendan knows that he needs to be ready.” Allen said.

Indiana plays the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
