Indiana Hoosiers offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan took to Zoom on Wednesday to recap how spring practice finished and to answer several questions from the media. The final question of the day was regarding the health of All-Big Ten quarterback Michael Penix Jr who is recovering from an ACL injury.

“Mike's doing great. He’s recovering and rehabbing and and he's doing a real good job. I think in the summer time ,you know, it's the progress is sometimes day to day when you're dealing with you know coming off a surgery. I think i feel confident in our ability to do some things fundamentally for him, to get him back throwing.” Sheridan said.

Penix was injured in a late-November game against Maryland and did not fully participate in spring practice.

May is quickly approaching, which means Indiana’s season opener against Iowa is starting to show on the horizon and Penix’s health is moving toward the forefront of people’s discussion of IU football.

“Hopefully as we get closer towards August it'll be more towards normal,” Sheridan explained, “but we want to be smart about that we want to make sure that Mike's fully healthy and ready to go but I feel confident that he'll have a productive summer and he'll be able to get some of the timing and some of the work that happens during those months with the wide outs and tight ends and running backs and the communication that occurs with the offensive line. So I feel comfortable with where he's at and i know i think he feels the same way and it'll be big for Mike.”

Last season Penix burst back on to the scene with 14 touchdown passes and 1,645 yards. He did enough in six games to get All-Big Ten recognition.
