Offense Shifts Focus to Simplicity and Sticking with One Quarterback

For the most important position on the field the plan is to go with one guy the rest of the season. On Thursday, Tom Allen spoke to the media and voiced his frustrations with rotating quarterbacks Brendan Sorsby and Tayven Jackson over the past month.
“I think the biggest thing is, you got two talented young guys that that are growing and developing and working through this together they've been awesome with each other, which is not easy to do. The biggest thing is, you got talented young guys that that are growing and developing and working through this together and, they've been awesome with each other, which is not easy to do. And I think there's no question you know, they both have gotten lots of reps in practice throughout fall camp and spring and this season. and so just being able to have a situation where you have a system in place that doesn't have to be modified really at all for either guy in the game.” Allen said on Thursday.
Jackson, who has started every game since the opener, has completed 78 passes for 914 yardswith two touchdowns and five interceptions. On the other hand, Sorsby has arguably played better than Jackson the past couple games. He has completed 30 passes for 294 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Both QB’s have shown flashes of hope, but it has come with little consistency.
Furthermore, the plan going forward for Allen and his offensive unit is to continue to simplify the offense and stick with whomever he starts against Rutgers on Saturday.
“We know what we're doing with that position and just be able to have a guy to get out there and play with confidence and be able to lead our offense and execute and do a great job of putting together a game plan.” Allen said.
Last week, new offensive coordinator Rod Carey alluded to scratching out the plays that don’t work making it easier for the young quarterbacks.
Although Allen did not name a starter on Thursday, the rest of the season the theme will continue to be the same.
Whether it’s Sorsby, Jackson, or Dexter Williams the plan will remain the same. Stick with one quarterback.
