The 7th ranked Indiana Hoosiers (6-1) and Purdue Boilermakers (2-4) had their annual game canceled last weekend, but will attempt to make up the game in the Big Ten’s Champions Week the conference announce on Sunday. The game, should it be played, will be in Bloomington on Friday, December 18th at 7:30pm and airing on the Big Ten Network.

Both Indiana and Purdue have been paused in their football activities since Monday. Hoosier fans believed that Iowa would be their extra game since the Big Ten had proposed matching up teams based on their finish in the divisions, but clearly that was adjusted. While the Hoosiers could have benefited from a potential matchup with Iowa, it just made all the sense in the world to pair IU and Purdue. Not only does it preserve a trophy game, which the conference also did with Wisconsin and Minnesota and the Battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe, it puts both schools dealing with COVID in the same space. Should the game have to be canceled again, there will not be as much scrambling as there would be if both teams were slated to play other opponents.

As always, Hoosier Huddle will update information when it becomes available.
