Mike Hart Leaves Hoosiers for Alma Mater

One of the greatest players in Michigan football history is returning to Ann Arbor. Mike Hart has left Bloomington and the Indiana Hoosiers after a four-year stint as the running backs coach for Tom Allen’s program. He will have the same position at Michigan and look to help jumpstart a rushing attack previously led by Jim Harbaugh’s son, Jay Harbaugh.
In his time in Bloomington, Hart recruited and helped develop Stevie Scott, a young man that grew up very close to where Hart is from in upstate New York. Under Mike Hart’s guidance, Stevie Scott became an All-Big Ten running back. He also helped recruit current IU backs Tim Baldwin and Sampson James and was a helpful recruiter for players playing other positions. The loss of Hart as a running backs coach will be fairly easy to replace as one can make a valid argument that Stevie Scott has not really “developed” all that much since his record-breaking freshman campaign. He arrived a very good player and he will leave a very good player. The loss of Mike Hart as a recruiter appears from the outside to be far more difficult to replace. Having a former NFL running back that put up gaudy numbers at the University of Michigan as a recruiter for your program is an asset that Tom Allen will need to do without as IU moves forward.
The Indiana Hoosiers must now hire a new running backs coach in addition to bringing in a replacement at defensive coordinator for Kane Wommack. Hoosier Huddle will have more on those searches as news develops.
