With IU and Notre Dame announcing their home and home for the year 2030-31, it is time to take a look back at the history of this series.

The first game of this series took place in 1898 with the Hoosiers taking the first win of the series with a score of 11-5. Since then the Fighting Irish and IU have played 28 other games, with the last one being in 1991 won by the Jerome Bettis led Fighting Irish.

The Fighting Irish have dominated this series so far winning 23 of out of the 29 games that have been played including a six-game win streak. IU has won five games in the series with one game ending in a tie.

Throughout the beginning of the series IU won two out of the first three games as well as four out of the first seven. However, since the tie in 1907 IU has only won one more game. This last win came back in October of 1950.

In the series Notre Dame averages 19.7 points per game while IU averages only 5.7 points per game.

Notre Dame is a historic program with 11 national championships and IU is a team that is on the rise, setting up an exciting new chapter to this in-state match-up.

"I'm looking forward to facing one of the most storied programs in the history of college football," head coach Tom Allen said. "It's tremendous for the state of Indiana and for our fans, and it will be a great opportunity for our players."

Hoosier fans have to wait another nine years for the game to be played (welcome to college football), but at least it is on the schedule.
