The age-old saying ‘practice makes perfect,’ could come into effect this spring for junior quarterback Jack Tuttle.

Earlier this week, third-string quarterback Dexter Williams went down with an ACL injury. This has left Junior Jack Tuttle as the last scholarship quarterback on Indiana’s roster. Now Tuttle will be forced to take on the extra reps.

“Jack obviously has taken a bunch of reps and he’s doing a really good job this spring and that has to continue,” said Head Coach Tom Allen following Williams’ injury.

Tuttle has already been working with the first team. But, Dexter Williams was expected to cut into some of those reps and work with the first team on occasion. Now, Tuttle looks forward to being able to share the field with both units and get on the same page as everyone on the team.

“I think it’s great because guys will be different combos and it really depends on what personnel is in, so I think it’s good getting reps with everybody,” Said Tuttle, “But, It’s good being with the ones (first-team) right now and communicating and being able to mesh with them. But as I said before, it’s good getting reps on the field.”

The former four-star recruit started two games for the Hoosiers after starting quarterback Michael Penix also injured his ACL. In those two games, Tuttle threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns while completing 58-percent of his throws.

Even with some experience under his belt, Tuttle is eager to improve his game this spring. He also wants to become more in sync with his receivers and offensive line.

“Just continue growing on my mental game, working on some throws and just meshing together with the units we play with.”

As for the rest of the Hoosiers, they should focus on protecting their lone quarterback before it is too late. If the injury bug bites Tuttle, then it could spell trouble for the Hoosiers season.
