In college football a program must be moving forward and looking to the future constantly or risk falling behind the eight ball for success down the road. The Hoosier coaches have been busy in 2015 looking to get a fast start to the 2016 recruiting class. On Thursday the Hoosiers extended an offer to 247 Sports Composite 4-star linebacker Dontavious Jackson. Jackson is a 6-2 237 lb. inside linebacker from Houston, TX who holds offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Michigan State among others. He is rated as the fourth best prospect at his position and the 146th best prospect overall in the country. Jackson had an extraordinary junior season making 165 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, while forcing four fumbles and picking off a pass.

While landing a talent like Jackson may be a pipe dream for the Hoosiers at the present time, he had only great things to say about IU and the coaching staff in an interview with 247 Sports saying the offer “means a lot, I have been talking to coach (William) Inge for a while now and it feels great to finally receive the offer”. Jackson admittedly knows little about the Hoosier program but “plan(s) on learning” and added “coach Inge is a great man and leader”.

Big game hunting in recruiting is a tough business and the results may not always be in the Hoosiers’ favor, but head coach Kevin Wilson and his coaching staff is bold enough to offer these long shots. If the Hoosiers can land one of these blue chip recruits it could change the program for the better.
