The Indiana Hoosiers were delivered a terrible blow on Monday afternoon as head coach Tom Allen announced that Indiana’s starting right tackle Matthew Bedford was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL.

Bedford suffered the injury shortly before halftime in the Hoosiers 23-20 win over Illinois last Friday night. On the play Bedford was going back into pass protect and collapsed. Bedford is eligible for a medical redshirt year and could be back for the Hoosiers in 2023.

Bedford had played in 29 games with the Hoosiers including 27 starts.

Allen said on Monday that Parker Hanna has the right tackle spot. Hanna played in place of Bedford on Friday. Hanna joined IU from West Texas A&M this offseason and is listed at 6’5” and 302 pounds.

IU has several young linemen who they can attempt to plug in as well in Joshua Sales and Bray Lynch.

The Hoosiers next games is against FCS foe Idaho at 8pm on Saturday in Bloomington.
