The Indiana Hoosiers future offense got a bit faster on Thursday night as speedy three-star running back David Holloman committed to the Hoosiers class of 2021. Holloman is out of Avondale High School in Auburn Hills, Michigan. He is listed at 5’10.5” and 189 pounds. But it’s not his size the Hoosiers coveted, it is his speed. Holloman ran a laser-timed 4.39 40-yard dash according to a tweet from 247Sports recruiting guru Allen Trieu.
Holloman made his announcement on Twitter as Indiana head coach Tom Allen was on a special edition of his radio show with Don Fischer. His announcement read:
First I would like to thank God for everything this far and providing me an opportunity to play college football and guiding me through this recruiting process. I’m very grateful to be where I am today. I would like to thank all the coaches who recruited me throughout this process and have taken time to develop relationships with me. I appreciate all of you for giving a opportunity. I also want to give thanks to the entire Avondale community as well as my teammates and coaches for the great support during my process. Lastly I’d like to thank my parents and family for being by my side through this decision and raising me to be a better person in all walks of life. With that being said I am very proud to announce that I will be committing to Indiana University to further my academic and football career. Thank you and God Bless”
The Hoosiers have three running backs on scholarship heading into the fall of 2020 in junior Stevie Scott, sophomore Sampson James and freshman Tim Baldwin Jr. The Hoosiers have recruited the state of Michigan well under Allen.
Allen Trieu of 247 Sports also wrote this scouting report on Holloman:
“Has more of a longer, leaner frame than a classic running back build but has spent time the weight room and is put-together. High-end timed speed. Has shown burst as a route-runner in a camp setting. Catches the ball well. Needs to continue to work on reading blocks and playing up to timed speed. Once he is in the open field, he can outrun defenders. Works hard on his training and craft. As long as he can continue development as a football player, he has the rare speed to make a difference at the collegiate level.”
Holloman is rated as a three-star running back and the 54th best running back nationally by 247 Sports. He held twenty total offers and chose the Hoosiers over offers from Power Five schools Iowa State, Maryland, Nebraska, Rutgers, Washington State and West Virginia. He is the sixth verbal commitment for the Hoosiers in the 2021 class which sits at 11th in the Big Ten and 37th nationally with an average rating of 85.98.
