Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: Six Days (James Head Jr.)
/Written by Andrew Walker
Officially, the Indiana football season will kick off in less than a week. We’ve been waiting so long to say that. Six days is what separates us from having an Indiana football season. On this sixth day from kickoff, we’re taking a look at junior DL James Head Jr.
Name - James Head Jr
Position - DL - Junior
Hometown - Miami, Florida - Southridge HS
Height - 6’5
Weight - 261 lbs
James Head Jr. has been a perennial name on the defensive line for years now. Almost every play, Head can be seen making his impact where it counts. Last year was a career year for the 6’5 defensive monster. He recorded 20 tackles, 14 solo, 2.5 sacks, four for loss, five quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and one forced fumble. Quite the resume for someone as good as Head.
One massive point of emphasis that Head is leading the defensive line on for the upcoming season is sacks. The ultimate defensive play that’s guaranteed to have a loss of yards. Head is extremely emphatic about getting to the quarterback, and the Hoosiers have to do better. "We are trying to get as many sacks as possible...Every time the quarterback drops back to pass, we are trying to get a sack," Head says. "However many times that quarterback steps back to pass, that is how many sacks that we want."
Head chose to join the Hoosiers in 2018 after a great high school career in Miami. The beast of a defensive lineman finished his high school career with 250 tackles, 47 for loss, and 45 sacks. It’s no wonder that someone with that kind of stat line is doing so well with Indiana.
