The 2020 Hoosier Huddle Countdown is more than one third of the way complete. We have reached #62 and today’s profile player is a freshman legacy player from Noblesville, Indiana: Cameron Knight.
Name – Cameron Knight
Position – Offensive Line
Hometown – Freshman from Noblesville, IN (Noblesville High School)
Height – 6’3”
Weight – 270 pounds
We’ll start the Cameron Knight profile with the question the casual IU fans are probably asking themselves while reading this: yes, Cameron Knight is related to recent IU offensive lineman Brandon Knight. The two are brothers are both starred at Noblesville High School as offensive linemen. Cameron played with current Hoosiers Ryan Barnes (tight end), Grant Gremel (quarterback) and Chase Wyatt (punter) as well as the suburban Indianapolis high school clearly has a strong connection to Tom Allen’s program.
With those connections clarified, let’s focus on Cameron as he attempts to make his own path in Cream and Crimson. Cameron was named a team captain at Noblesville and earned MVP honors for his position group on two occasions. He was on the IndyStar Super Team in 2019 and was ranked just outside the top ten of Indiana prospects in his class by Rivals. Once IU started heavily pursuing Cameron, there was little chance he was going to go anywhere else.
“I knew that my brother came here and people were going to associate me with him,” Knight said after committing. “I use him as motivation every day. Having him there to see where I’m at but also wanting to make a name for myself, that’s huge for me.”
Cameron Knight was one of nine players to enroll early and participate in spring practice. Of course, that did not end up working out as all had hoped as spring football was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, Knight was able to get a taste of college football and what is expected of him and that should pay dividends prior to the 2020 season. The biggest concern for him is his weight as he entered IU at less than 270 pounds. To be a successful lineman in the Big Ten, Knight will need to get much closer to 300 pounds. He is firmly behind a number of players on the offensive line and the goal should be to redshirt the 2020 season and begin competing for a two-deep position as a redshirt freshman in 2021. This campaign should be used to gain weight and strength and experience as a practice squad player and learn from the veterans ahead of him. Cameron Knight is excited to help the ascending IU program climb higher.
“Everything’s starting to come together,” Knight said about starting his IU career. “We’re starving. We want more.”
