/Written by Evan McShane
Less than a week remaining until the start of Big Ten college football. The Hoosier Huddle annual countdown continues, now just five days away from the season opener against Penn State. Let’s take a look at freshman quarterback Dexter Williams and defensive back Juwan Burgess (posting later).
Name – Dexter Williams
Position – Quarterback
Year/Hometown – Freshman from Macon, GA (Mount de Sales Academy)
Height – 6’1”
Weight – 208lbs
A welcome addition to the Hoosiers’ quarterback room, Dexter Williams enrolled in spring classes this year. The young quarterback from Georgia put up a monster senior season, racking up over 2,500 total yards of offense and 29 touchdowns. Williams completed over 62% of his passes for 1,524 yards and 15 touchdowns to go with 984 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.
After posting over 5,000 total yards and 61 touchdowns during his final two high school seasons, Williams earned a three-star designation and was ranked as the 21st best dual-threat quarterback in the nation by 247Sports. Williams is an athletic player with a big arm who hopes to someday follow in the footsteps of current QB Mike Penix.
Coach Tom Allen and his staff continue to recruit the south with success. The Georgia native will likely be used only in emergency circumstance in 2020, but Williams figures to be a key piece moving forward. Dexter Williams led his team to 19 wins in his final 20 high school games and the school’s first regional championship in over 20 years. The Hoosiers may have found their future leader.
