Go with your gut. Every time. No matter what. That’s what Cam Jones did when he committed to Indiana the first time. In April of 2017, the Tennessee native chose Indiana over his home state team the Tennessee Volunteers who offered Jones a scholarship the same day (Feb. 24, 2017), just after receiving offers from Memphis and Middle Tennessee State. Jones’ range of experience starting as a quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive end attracted a lot of attention. He started all four years, and his breakout junior and senior seasons topped the stats charts for tackles (160), sacks (34), tackles for loss (60), receptions, rushing yardage (1,049), all-purpose yardage (3,678), and touchdowns (32) or St Benedict at Auburndale. Jones led the team for most interceptions in his freshman (4) and sophomore (6) years.

The two-time all-state, three-time all-region and two-time team MVP feared commitment with all the attention he was getting and decommitted from Indiana—just 2 months after committing. Indiana’s coaching staff did not stop their chase after the 6’3”, 215 lb. star’s de-commitment. The competition was tough, but Tom Allen and Indiana’s coaching staff won the five-way tug-of-war between Mizzou, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Memphis. In October of his senior season, Jones confirmed his first decision to be the right one and locked it in with his NLI signing with the Hoosiers in December 2017.

Hoosier Huddle’s TJ Inman predicts that Cam Jones will start for the Hoosiers in the linebacker position with Reakwon Jones. Since Jones moved to Bloomington, he has nothing but good to say about Coach Allen, Coach Ballou and staff.
